Youth-led Peace

Youth-led Peace

Since its earliest days, Scouting has made peacebuilding a cornerstone of daily life — inspiring generations of young people to serve as messengers of harmony and mutual understanding, building bridges across cultures and communities.

Through initiatives such as Messengers of Peace and by celebrating international days that highlight the importance of living together in peace, Scouts strengthen their skills in dialogue, empathy, and community engagement, equipping them to play a meaningful role in creating a more peaceful world.

Living Together in Peace

At the 43rd World Scout Conference in Cairo, Egypt, National Scout Organizations (NSOs) adopted a resolution to commemorate International Day of Living Together in Peace. Observed on 16 May, this day aligns with World Scouting’s commitment to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, and solidarity. This years theme is “Building Trust through Dialogue, Inclusion and Reconciliation.”

We continue the mandate of the resolution and encourage NSOs to take meaningful action by raising awareness, educating young people, and engaging communities in peacebuilding. On this page, you’ll find inspiring resources, practical tools, and key information to support your journey -- helping Scouts everywhere deepen their understanding of peace, foster inclusivity, and create transformative experiences rooted in empathy and service.

International Day of Peace

International Day of Peace is celebrated on 21 September and promotes peace, non-violence, and the cessation of hostilities among all nations and peoples. Established by the United Nations, it serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to promote a culture of peace and understanding.

How NSOs can take part! 🤝

Raise awareness and make a greater impact at the grassroots level by:

  • Celebrating with community-based activities that promote peace and inclusion.
  • Forging partnerships and strengthening collaborations with civil society, academia, and other like-minded organisations.
