Three outstanding Scout centres in Ireland have been accredited as Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability, or SCENES, recognising their commitment to environmental education and sustainable centre management.
Castle Saunderson Scout Centre, Larch Hill International Scout and Guide Centre, and Lough Dan Scout & Eco Centre now join the growing global SCENES network. Their accreditation reflects Scouting Ireland's long-standing commitment to inspire young people to connect with nature, develop environmental responsibility, and take action for a more sustainable world.
Castle Saunderson Scout Centre, located in County Cavan, is an international Scouting facility located in the historic Castle Saunderson estate. Since opening in 2012, it has welcomed Scouts from Ireland and around the world for camping, outdoor adventures, and environmental education.
Located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, Lough Dan Scout & Eco Centre offers camping facilities and hostel accommodation for Scouts, youth, and school groups. It also serves as an eco-park that encourages sustainable living, biodiversity awareness, and responsible outdoor recreation.
Close to Dublin, Larch Hill International Scout and Guide Centre spans 36 hectares of woodlands, rivers, and camping fields. Its natural setting and outdoor programmes give young people hands-on opportunities to explore nature, develop outdoor skills, and learn about the environment.
Together, these centres strengthen the global SCENES network and highlight Scouting Ireland's leadership in environmental education and sustainability. As new members of the SCENES network, each centre will continue to share their expertise, inspire others, and help advance environmental excellence across World Scouting.
