GLB-C23-2023

I am writing to inform you of two upcoming changes in the leadership of the World Scout Bureau’s Arab and Interamerica Support Centres.

After four years serving the Movement as Regional Director for the Arab Support Centre, our colleague Amr Hamdy has decided to retire by the end of 2023. Meanwhile, our colleague Raul Sanchez Vaca has decided to move on to other career opportunities by the end of 2023 after a remarkable 13 years of service in his role of Regional Director for the Interamerica Support Centre. I would like to acknowledge and recognise Amr and Raul’s unwavering commitment and service to the Scout Movement.

Over the past period, in consultation with the respective Regional Committees, excellent candidates were found to fill both Regional Director roles.

I am pleased to announce that Hany Abdulmonem, currently serving as the Global Director, Scouting Development, will be appointed as the new Regional Director for the Arab Scout Region. Hany brings a wealth of leadership, skills, and experience to the role having worked at both the global and regional level throughout his career with the Bureau.

In consultation with the Interamerica Scout Committee, I am also pleased to appoint Diana Carrillo to the role of Regional Director for the Interamerica Scout Region. Diana currently leads the youth area team of the United Nations Population Fund in Mexico. She is also well known to Scouting as the current Chairperson of the National Board of our National Scout Organization in Mexico, a WOSM Consultant in Good Governance, and a member who served as part of the leadership in the planning of major World Scout Events, such as the 2019 World Scout Jamboree and the 2021 World Scout Youth Forum. Diana also served previously as a Youth Advisor to the World Scout Committee.

Both Hany (hany@scout.org) and Diana (dcarrillo@scout.org) will start their new leadership roles in their respective Regional Support Centres from January 2024 onwards. I am sure you will all join me in wishing them a successful tenure in their new roles.

Yours in Scouting,

Ahmad Alhendawi
Secretary General
