A high-level delegation from World Scouting was in Korea last week for a two-day visit with the new leadership of the Korea Scout Association (KSA), and engagements with members of the Korean National Assembly in a bid to strengthen ties and support for Scouting in the country.

The delegation, which included Asia-Pacific Regional Chairperson Dale Corvera, World Scouting’s Acting Secretary General David Berg,  Asia-Pacific Regional Director J. R. Pangilinan, and Sam Williams, Global Director External Relations and Partnerships, met with senior-ranking members of the Korean parliament. The discussions centred on the current legislative framework for youth organisations, securing long-term policy and financial support for KSA, as well as learnings and conclusions of the 25th World Scout Jamboree, which was held in SaeManGeum, Korea in August 2023.

The second day of the visit focused on reinforcing the partnership between World Scouting and KSA. A high-level meeting with Dr Chan-hee Lee, President of KSA focused on collaboration and support for the growth and development of Scouting in Korea, and a half-day workshop with KSA’s national team offered an opportunity to assess the association’s strengths, internal capacity, and external opportunities .

The visit concluded with both World Scouting and KSA recognising the importance of the long-term partnership and reaffirming a shared commitment towards membership growth, financial stability, and enhanced government engagement to ensure there is a strong and sustainable future for Korean Scouting.
