The Africa Scout Region, together with the Scout Association of South Africa are delighted to invite you to the 16th Edition of the Africa Scout Day to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in March 2025.
About Africa Scout Day
Africa Scout Day is a regional flagship event commemorated annually on 13 March, as designated by the African Union (AU). The day brings together Scouts, Adult Leaders, and partners from across the continent to reflect on the achievements of the Scouting Movement and to strengthen partnerships aimed at increasing social impact in Africa.
The observance of Africa Scout Day is in line with Resolution CM/Res.1607 (LXII) adopted by the Council of Ministers of the former Organisation of African Unity (OAU)—now the African Union—during its 62nd Ordinary Session, held in Addis Ababa from 21 to 23 June 1995.
Since September 2010, the Africa Regional Scout Committee resolved to give Africa Scout Day a regional focus by designating a National Scouting Organisation to host the main celebration.
Theme
The theme for this edition is “Strong Roots, Bright Future” . It highlights the importance of growth, continuity, and the strength that comes from a solid foundation. Just as a tree thrives only when its roots are deep and secure, Scouts flourish when they are firmly grounded in shared values, heritage, and teamwork.
This theme encourages Scouts to reflect on their roots—within Scouting, their families, and their cultures—while looking ahead to a future defined by leadership, innovation, service, and unity.
The event seeks to inspire a new generation of young Africans who are equipped to shape their own lives and contribute meaningfully to the development of the continent. Through Scouting, we collectively work towards realising the vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Africa.
Dates and Venue
An in-person camp will take place at Arrowe Park Scout Camp, Johannesburg, from 12 to 15 March 2026, bringing together Scouts from across the African continent. Accommodation will be in tents, and all participants are expected to provide their own camping equipment.
The camp will offer a dynamic and engaging programme featuring recreational activities, skills development, and community service projects. In parallel, dedicated training programmes will be conducted for adult leaders. A major highlight of the event will be a virtual link-up with Africa Scout Day activities across the region, including the main continental celebration on Friday, 13 March 2026.

As World Scouting, we are committed to safe and inclusive events. All participants of the Africa Scout Day 2026 are supposed to take the Safe from Harm course. The Code of Conduct for the event is also included in the documents below.

To support a more inclusive event, a resource pack has been provided here containing the Africa Scout Day programme and age-appropriate activities. This will enable National Scout Organizations to plan and deliver their own local events for those unable to travel to South Africa , ensuring the occasion is widely celebrated.
