Circular No.IAR-C12-2024-EN

Subject: Ocean Decade Campaign

Dear Scout Friends,

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals are one of our main priorities in Scouting. The UN has declared the "Ocean Decade" (2021-2030) with the aim of strengthening science and protecting our seas. This initiative seeks to increase knowledge and action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, highlighting marine conservation, pollution reduction, and sustainable fishing.

In support of this initiative and in celebration of World Oceans Day, throughout the month, from June 8th to July 8th, 2024, we will celebrate the Ocean Decade, supporting the initiative and raising awareness among each Scout about the importance of protecting and caring for the seas. This month, we aim to mobilize youth for environmental action, with a special focus on ocean sustainability and conservation. This campaign not only strengthens the commitment of Scouts to the SDGs but also contributes to the culture of preserving marine ecosystems.

To achieve this, the sustainability working group of the Interamerican Scout Committee has developed 2 Action Kits that will be promoted during this month. The Action Kits contain various ideas for activities to be implemented at different levels of the NSO.

Ocean Decade Action Kit 1 – In this Action Kit, you can find general information about the Ocean Decade as well as 4 ideas for activities to implement in your NSO or Scout group.

Ocean Decade Action Kit 2 – In this Kit, you have access to activities that will allow you to develop your creativity with your Scouts around the culture of Ocean preservation.

We invite you to join the promotion and implementation of these Action Kits through social media using the hashtags #OceanDecade #Scouts4SDGs. For your reference, in this link, you will find ready-to-use designs to create or publish your own messages on social media in support of the Ocean Decade.
