Three amazing Scout Centres have officially become Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature and Environment (SCENES) in recognition of their dedication to environmental protection and for inspiring young people to care for the planet.

From the lush forests of Brazil to the meadows of Italy and the woodlands of Canada, each of these centres has shown real dedication to environmental education, sustainability practices, and community engagement – exactly what SCENES is all about.

Since the early 1990s, SCENES has been at the heart of World Scouting’s commitment to environmental stewardship. With over 43 accredited SCENES Centres worldwide, the network has become a cornerstone of environmental education and action within the Scouting movement. Aligned with World Scouting’s Climate Impact Strategy, there is now a unique opportunity to take the next step in strengthening and expanding this impact.

Meet the new SCENES centres!

Camp Escoteiro Geraldo Hugo Nunes – Brazil

Tucked away in Rio de Janeiro, Camp Escoteiro Geraldo Hugo Nunes is home to one of the last remaining flooded forests of the Atlantic Forest in the region - a rare and vital ecosystem. Accredited on 1 February 2025, the centre offers Scouts opportunities to explore biodiversity and experience conservation up close.

Base Scout Piazzole – Italy

Established in 1968, Base Scout Piazzole spans 28 hectares of forests, meadows, and ancient chestnut trees. Managed by the Fondazione San Giorgio, the centre is a hub for Scouts, schools, and local communities, offering year-round educational programmes focused on ecology, sustainability, and outdoor skills. It was accredited on 4 March 2025.

Camp Samac – Canada

Founded in 1946, Camp Samac is one of Scouts Canada’s oldest and most vibrant centres. Located in Oshawa, Ontario, it spans over 163 acres of forested land. Accredited on 26 May 2025, its accessible urban setting and dynamic environmental programming make it a standout model for youth-led environmental education.

Together, these centres form part of a growing global network of SCENES, each playing a vital role in empowering young people, promoting sustainability, and protecting our natural world. Their dedication and innovation are a huge inspiration to the Scout Movement and beyond.

Congratulations to our three newest SCENES centres! We’re excited to see the impact you’ll make.
