GLB-C14-2025
Dear friends,
We are pleased to share key updates regarding the use, promotion, and protection of World Scouting’s refreshed brand. These updates will help National Scout Organizations (NSOs) strengthen their communications efforts, implement educational initiatives, request permission to register World Scouting’s trademarks nationally, and renew commercial and non-commercial sub-license agreements.
Brand guidelines and media assets
Our new digital brand centre is the central hub for accessing the World Scouting’s latest brand guidelines and media assets. We have updated the brand centre with tools to support NSO communications at both national and local levels, including:
- Additional brand guidelines for our four educational initiatives: Messengers of Peace, EarthTribe, LifeLeaders, and HealthAllies.
- Guidelines for upcoming World and Regional Scout events.
- Downloadable visual assets – including logos, artwork, animated graphics, templates, and other core elements of our brand identity – are available in multiple file formats for both digital and print use.
We have also republished our multimedia asset library with high-quality photos, video footage, and audio materials. NSOs can both access and freely download assets for use in their communications, digital platforms, and marketing materials with no login required.
This library will continue to grow over time with new collections linked to global and regional events, offering even more ways to celebrate Scouting worldwide.
National trademark registration
We recognise that many NSOs are working to protect the new World Scouting brand in their countries as part of GSAT requirements. If your organisation wants to register the World Scout emblem, World Scouting logo, or the “Ready for Life” tagline at the national level, you can submit a request to the World Scout Bureau’s legal team.
After reviewing your request, our legal team can issue an official authorisation letter delegating the necessary authority to support your registration with local authorities. Please allow 3 to 5 working days for processing once all the required information has been provided.
We can also provide template wording and supporting documents where needed. If your NSO plans to file trademarks in multiple classes or categories (e.g., educational, merchandise, digital), please indicate this in your request.
Commercial and non-commercial licensing
To strengthen brand governance, World Scouting is reviewing the existing sub-license agreements between NSOs and either World Scouting or the World Scout Shop Limited. This review will:
- Clarify how brand elements can be used in commercial and non-commercial contexts.
- Establish clear procedures for brand adaptation, licensing, and royalty fees.
- Create a simpler and more consistent licensing process for all NSOs.
This process will clarify which brand elements can be used or adapted, define permitted uses in commercial and non-commercial contexts, and outline the terms and conditions for sub-licensing and royalty fee payments.
This review is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Current agreements, including most covering the use of the old logo, will remain valid until that time.
To support this transition, we will hold dedicated workshops at upcoming Regional Scout Conferences and online webinars later this year to walk through the updated procedures and address any questions. An FAQ document will also be made available to help NSOs prepare for any changes in the licensing process and determine whether a commercial or non-commercial agreement best applies to their activities.
If you have any general questions about the World Scouting brand, you can send an email to [email protected].
For questions related to authorisation to register World Scouting trademarks at the national level, or to learn more about the new commercial and non-commercial sub-licensing agreements, please contact Syafiq Mohd Hashim, Senior Executive of Legal and Compliance, at the World Scout Bureau by emailing [email protected].
Yours in Scouting,
