Dear sisters and brothers in Scouting,
Following Resolution 7/2022 of the 28th Interamerican Scout Conference, “Adaptation of the Interamerican Policy on Regional Networks,” the text of the Interamerican Network Policy was modified in relation to the Interamerican Youth Network as follows:
“The Coordinating Core of the Network is composed of two Coordinators elected at the first network meeting held after each Regional Conference, one staff member from the World Scout Bureau – Interamerica Support Centre, and one member of the Interamerican Scout Committee.”
Accordingly, during the next Regional Networks Meeting, scheduled to take place from June 26 to 28, 2026, the new Coordinators of the Interamerican Youth Network will be elected.
1. Current Status of the Interamerican Youth Network Coordinators (2023–2026 period)
Elected members
The following individuals were elected as Coordinators of the Interamerican Youth Network during the 2023 Youth Network Meeting:
- Oliver García (Dominican Republic) – continues in his role and will complete his term at the next Network Meeting.
- Larissa Oliveira (Brazil) – stepped down from her role as Coordinator during the 2023–2026 period.
- Call for Nominations of Candidates for Coordinators of the Interamerican Youth Network (2026–2029 period)
Two (2) Coordinators of the Interamerican Youth Network will be elected for the period beginning at the Network Meeting in which they are elected (scheduled for June 2026) and ending at the first Network Meeting following the next Interamerican Scout Conference.
Member Organizations are reminded to consider the following when nominating candidates:
- The specifications of the functions and suggested profile of the Interamerican Youth Network Coordinators (Annex 1).
- Under no circumstances may more than one person from the same NSO be nominated for the role of Youth Network Coordinator.
- All candidates are expected to act in accordance with the values of the Scout Movement when promoting their candidacy, following the Code of Conduct for the meeting and for candidates.
Member Organizations wishing to nominate a candidate for the role of Coordinator of the Interamerican Youth Network must complete the application process through the designated online form, attaching the following information and documentation:
- Application Requirements
a. Application Form
Complete the online form, including personal information, relevant experience, and short responses to questions aimed at understanding the candidate’s motivation, skills, and proposals to strengthen the Interamerican Youth Network.
The form must include confirmation from the National Scout Organization, issued by an authorized representative (International Commissioner, Executive Director, Chief Scout, or President), validating the nomination.
b. Motivation Video
A short video in which the candidate shares their motivation, experience, and vision for the Interamerican Youth Network.
- Duration: minimum 1 minute and maximum 2 minutes
- Format: vertical 9:16 (1080 x 1920 px)
- Language: English or Spanish. No subtitles.
- Style: open (candidates are encouraged to present their content in an authentic and creative way)
- Attire: National Scout uniform
- File format: .MP4, .MOV, or equivalent
- Resolution: sufficient quality for clear viewing (HD recommended)
- A written script must be submitted in English or Spanish. The WSB will provide translation and add subtitles in the additional language (Spanish or English).
c. Candidate Photograph
A recent color photograph in digital format that clearly identifies the candidate.
- Good lighting and image quality recommended
- Format: Vertical 9:16 (1080 x 1920 px) or Horizontal 16:9 (1920 x 1080 px)
- Attire: National Scout uniform
- White background
- File format: .JPG or .TIFF
d. Identity Document
A digital copy of an official document verifying the candidate’s age (image or PDF).
All files must be submitted digitally through the form. The deadline for submission is June 1, 2026, at 23:59 Panama time (GMT -5).
- The WSB will confirm receipt to the official contacts of the NSOs upon submission.
- Applications received after the deadline or missing required documentation will not be considered.
After the closing date, a document containing the profiles of all candidates will be shared with all NSOs.
4. Presentation of Candidates
a. Before the Interamerican Networks Meeting
Candidates must register in accordance with the process and timeline outlined in the official meeting circular. They must ensure they are available to participate in all sessions of the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, a document detailing the voting process will be shared with NSOs for their consideration.
Getting to know the candidates
One week after the closing of nominations, a document with the profiles of all candidates will be shared with NSOs.
Member Organizations are invited to submit questions in one of the two official languages of the Region (English or Spanish) for the candidates during the designated session at the Network Meeting.
Questions must be submitted through the following form:
The planning team will select 10 questions from the submitted responses and compile them into a document to be shared with the candidates in advance.
b. During the Interamerican Youth Network Meeting
During the meeting, two questions will be randomly selected for each candidate. Questions will be numbered and placed in a digital wheel (in both official languages of the Region – English and Spanish).
A departing Coordinator will spin the wheel to select the question at random. Under no circumstances will a Coordinator ask a question to a candidate from the same NSO.
Candidates will have a maximum of two minutes to respond to each question. No additional presentations will take place during the meeting.
Simultaneous interpretation will be available, so candidates may respond in either English or Spanish.
