CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR AFRICA SCOUT AND ELEPHANT AWARDS
The Africa Scout Region recognizes young people and adults who have made significant contributions to Scouting and their communities. These Scouts and Adult Volunteers are recognized and appreciated for their incredible service and vital contribution to the growth and development of Scouting in Africa. During the next Africa Scout Conference, we will be recognizing these exemplary young people and adults who have offered good service to the movement at local, national, regional and international levels. Cognizant that applications for these awards are received all through the triennium and presentations made at auspicious occasions, the purpose of this circular is to remind and call for nominations and endorsements from National Scout Organizations of people who are worthy to receive the Africa Scout Award and Africa Elephant Award at the conference, based on the set criteria.
AFRICA SCOUT AWARD
The Africa Scout Award is the highest and only award given by the Africa Scout Committee to Scouts from Africa for their exemplary contribution to the cause of Scouting. The award (in the form of a Badge and Certificate) is presented at the Africa Scout Conference. This award is specially designed for active Scouts making a valuable contribution in their respective local, national, or international communities. At the time of applying for the awards, the Scouts must be aged between 14 to 26 years.
The Africa Scout Award is intended to:
• Contribute the development of communities through different initiatives by Scouts.
• Contribute to the enhanced intake of the Scout Programme.
• Appreciate the role played by Scouts in creating a better world.
• Inspire the Scouts to discover their potentials.
• Motivate the Scouts to gain a greater self-belief in themselves and acquire useful life skills.
• Promote youth involvement and participation at all levels of NSOs.
• Encourage the concept of Leadership Development and Youth for Change.
AFRICA ELEPHANT AWARD
The Africa Elephant Award is the highest and only Scout award in the Region granted by the Africa Scout Region to adult members of the Movement. It is presented to top Scouts and Scouters in recognition of outstanding service to Scouting in Africa. The recipients are nominated by their respective National Scout Organizations and the holders of the Elephant Award for consideration by the Africa Scout Committee.
The award constitutes the following dimensions:
• Recognizing those who have provided exceptional service and contributed to the development of Scouting in Africa.
• Providing motivation to the awardees and inspiring others.
• Maximising on the profile of the awardees to contribute to resource mobilisation in the long term.
Terms and Conditions for the Awards
• The prerequisites and application forms for these awards are attached. All entries for award at the next Africa Scout Conference should be submitted to the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre no later than 15th July 2025 by email to [email protected]. All entries will be acknowledged upon receipt and shortlisted awardees will be notified directly through the contacts provided. Selection of entries will be done by the Honours and Awards Committee constituted by the Africa Scout Committee.
