In the recently concluded World Scout Committee meeting in March, the World Scout Committee (WSC) took the decision to phase out the Eurasia Scout Region. Leaders from the Asia-Pacific, European and Eurasia Regional Scout Committees were involved in the process in order to outline the best ways possible to continue supporting Scouting in the countries currently within the Eurasia Scout Region.
Following the decision of the WSC, it is foreseen that, as of 1 October 2023, the Member Organizations of Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan will join the Asia-Pacific Region as well as Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan which are not currently WOSM Member Organizations.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee supports this decision and is prepared to take all necessary steps to welcome the additional members and extend support to its young people and adults, as well as potential National Scout Organizations within the new boundaries of the Region. We welcome this change with the guiding principles of unity, transparency, youth empowerment, diversity and inclusion, and continuous improvement.
After joining our Region, we will actively work with our new members aiming at reinforcing their strengths and resilience as an organisation. They will have opportunities to participate actively in our regional activities and form partnerships within the Asia-Pacific Scout family. The Regional Scout Committee will also offer support in terms of membership and capacity building.
Between now and 30 September 2023, the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee, in close collaboration with the World Scout Bureau, is outlining an action plan for this transition to start with the induction and integration of our new Member Organizations.
Together we will celebrate the new boundaries of the Asia Pacific Scout Region at the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference 2025 in Taipei, to be hosted by The General Association of Scouts of China. We count on all Asia-Pacific Regional Member Organizations to join us in this endeavour and be proactive in welcoming our new members, to reach out to them and develop partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
We will keep our members informed about this major development. If you need any further information, please contact the Asia-Pacific Support Centre.
